  1.   This archive contains the RAR multifunctional integrated archive manager

  3.                     The RAR Archiver - version 2.00 beta 3

  5.    RAR features:

  7.  o RAR introduces a NEW and original compression algorithm.  It
  8.    allows higher compression ratios than other PC archiving tools,
  9.    especially on executable files, Object libraries, large text
  10.    files, etc.

  12.  o RAR offers a NEW optional compression algoritm highly optimized
  13.    for multimedia data.
  14.  
  15.  o RAR offers NEW facilities and features such as a full-screen
  16.    interactive interface utilising mouse and menus as well as the
  17.    command line interface.

  19.  o RAR provides functionality for creating a 'solid' archive, which
  20.    can raise the compression ratio by 10% - 50% over more common
  21.    methods, when packing large numbers of small files.
  22.  
  23.  o RAR gives the user, using the full-screen mode, the ability to
  24.    manage non-RAR archives (.ZIP, .ARJ, .LZH).  The user may view
  25.    update, transform to self-extracting (SFX) archive, add and
  26.    erase comments, specify temporary work directory, etc.

  28.  o RAR offers the ability to create and change SFX archives using
  29.    default and external SFX modules, e.g. the installation SFX.

  31.  o RAR offers the ability to create multi-volume archive as SFX.

  33.  o RAR offers a number of service functions, such as setting a
  34.    password, adding archive and file comments.  Even physically
  35.    damaged archives may be repaired and an archive may be locked
  36.    to prevent further changes.  Authenticity information may be
  37.    added for additional security and RAR will store information
  38.    on the last update and name of the archive.

  40.  o RAR provides ANSI esc-sequence support in comments.  This
  41.    allows color comments and other ANSI features without the need
  42.    for an ANSI-driver.
